DESIGN VALUES FOR BARENTS CLEAN AMMONIA.
BARENTS CLEAN AMMONIA

A unique combination of scale, maturity and location.

01 · BARENTS CLEAN AMMONIA

A world-scale megaproject, ready for FEED.

The plant site lies at Markoppneset in Hammerfest municipality, next to the sheltered waters of Repparfjord with no sea ice. Gas arrives by pipeline from the Melkøya gas plant, CO₂ goes to permanent offshore storage, and ammonia leaves by ship. Local supplier industry is 35–45 minutes away, and the site has abundant access to clean water.

VALUE CHAIN

Every link in place, from gas field to ship.

The ecosystem around the plant has been matured since 2020, with term sheets signed across the value chain.

01 · GAS SUPPLY
Snøhvit field2.7 MSm³ of gas a day from a field in operation since 2007. Term sheet signed for 100 % of long-term supply, with very low life-cycle emissions.
02 · PIPELINE
60 km to the siteA pipeline from the Melkøya gas plant to Markoppneset. Concept study and route survey completed, and a modification solution for gas export established.
03 · PLANT AND SITE
MarkoppnesetLand lease option in place. Impact assessment programme approved, site survey and rock drilling done, fresh water secured, FEED contract and EPC option negotiated.
04 · CO₂ STORAGE
2 Mt a year storedTerm sheet signed for CO₂ transport and storage on the Norwegian Continental Shelf, with the storage provider taking storage liability. Specification compliance verified.
05 · AMMONIA SALES
Sold FOBA target of 850,000 tonnes a year on long-term contracts and 150,000 tonnes on short-term contracts. Long-term sales term sheet signed.
TERM SHEETS ARE CONDITIONAL.
TECHNOLOGY

Proven technology, built for the cold.

The plant uses autothermal reforming technology already applied in seven plants worldwide. Carbon capture above 99 % comes from integrating proven capture technology into the plant design while keeping energy use low.

CO₂ STORAGE IN USE40+ years
AMMONIA SHIPPED AT SCALE50+ years
Arctic efficiencySmart winterisation and heat integration turn the cold climate into higher energy efficiency at the plant.
Modular buildModules are built at yard and shipped to a ro-ro quay on site that handles modules of up to 10,000 tonnes. Industry benchmarks show this can cut capex by up to 20 %.
Low impactLow noise and light levels keep the impact on the surroundings and biodiversity to a minimum. The combined system allows full automation of the plant.

02 · STANDARD DESIGN

A blueprint ready for new sites.

Our standardised one-million-tonne production train is ready to be redeployed at sites with access to natural gas, CO₂ storage and export routes. Several trains can be planned at one site, and a modular plant design gives high location flexibility.

ANNUAL OUTPUT1 Mt per train
EXECUTION AFTER FID~42 months
START-UP TO FID~1 year
SITE RATINGMetocean and gas composition only
Proven elements onlyProven or mature technology throughout, with a high safety level for personnel and third parties.
Best-in-class footprintA low carbon footprint across scopes 1, 2 and 3, with an EU Taxonomy-compliant design and low demand for renewable electricity.
Economies of scaleMultiple copies of one standard train design, backed by a standard EPC contract scheme.
03 · NEXT SITES

In evaluation.

We are evaluating new locations in North America and other attractive regions, where the standard design can be paired with natural gas, carbon storage and export infrastructure.
